Remote Home Learning

Welcome to our Remote Learning page

Hello everyone!

From this week, we will be having two virtual lessons a day.  Maths will be 10-10.30 and English will be at 1:30 - 2:00pm.  Hopefully you should all have recieved a login for Microsoft Teams and I have sent an invite out to you all for each session.  If you need help with this, please email and I will try my best to help.  I can't wait to see you all again!

The follow up work for these sessions will be on this page alongside other lessons such as History, Science etc.  There is also a time table attached to give you an idea of which days the children in school are doing the work so that you can join in with them.  I have aimed to ensure that there is 4 hours of online learning a week.  This will include the online lessons and other smaller sessions such as reading and spelling.

I have loved seeing all your hard work so keep sending me some examples of your work to our class email sycamore@benjaminhargreaves.lancs.sch.uk.  This will help me to assess your learning and keep me up to date on anything that you may need help with.

Thank you

Mrs Robinson

I would also suggest 15 minutes a day of reading.  This could be reading anything from a novel to the news paper.  It doesn't matter as long as the children are reading.

I have also added a slot for spelling each day.  I will put a list of spellings on each week.  The children can learn these in their spelling slot and you could test them at the end of the week.

I will also add a PSHE/Mindfulness activity each week.  This should last between 30 mins to 40 mins depending on how long you wish to spend on it.

History

To use artefacts to research how Ancient Egyptians lived

This week, I would like you to have a look at the pictures of the different Egyptian artefacts.  Have a think about what they could be and what they could have been used for.  Once you have your ideas write a few sentences about each artefact.  When you have done this, use the other pictures to check if your thoughts were correct.

Science

To identify the planets in the solar system

Have a look at the different planets in the solar system and their order from the sun.  Often people make up rhymes to help them to remember the order they go in.  Have a look at the picture of the rhyme attached and then have a go at creating some of your own rhymes to help you to remember.

You must remember that Pluto is no longer a planet. Sadly it has been demoted to a dwarf planet so is no longer included in the order of the planets.

PE

Have a look at our Facebook page.  Mr Hill has put plenty of different activities for you to choose from on there. Pick your favourite activities.

Art

To apply tone in drawing

Have a look at some of the artefacts from our History lesson.  Pick three of your favourites.  You then need to have a go at drawing them.  You need to make sure that you add some shading to show that it is a 3D object.

PSHE

Each week will be focusing on different parts of mindfulness.  This could include yoga, meditation, mindfulness colouring etc.

This week we are having a focus on meditation. I have attached a guided meditation for you to follow.  Once you have finished the meditation, I would like you to think about how it made you feel and then create poster of one of the words.

For example you may choose peaceful so you would write the word peaceful and create a poster around this word.

RE

What would happen if there were no rules?

Think about the rules that you wrote last week. What would happen if you didn't have rules?  Think about what might happen if you didn't stop a traffic lights or you didn't follow the rules for handling fireworks and so on.

Remember rules are in place to keep us safe.

Write about what might happen if you didn't keep to the rules.

Handwriting

Mrs Whittaker would like you to have a go at the joins in the picture attached.  Remember to not to join the 'g' or 'b' when writing them out.
