Every child, every day, to learn, to laugh, to love and pray.

Welcome to Class 2

Miss Whittaker is your class teacher. We have an amazing team of people to help us in Class 2- Miss Durkin and Miss Woodcock.

Miss Whittaker, Miss Durkin and Miss Woodcock have had a really enjoyable half term with Year 2; the children have been working extremely hard! We are looking forward to a very busy half term ahead, with lots of exciting things to learn about!

Spring 1 Topics

We will be covering History, Geography and Design and Technology through our ‘Explorers' topic.

A space station has arrived in our class as we begin our new topic. We’re going to be learning lots of interesting facts about explorers; explorers from the past, where they’ve explored, the equipment they need and where you’d like to explore. We’ll be looking at polar explorers, explorers of the sea and might even get to try some astronaut ice-cream as we become space explorers!

In English, we will study the story ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' by Jill Tomlinson. We will practise using 'when' for subordination of time e.g. I put my coat on when it was raining and will practise beginning our sentences with 'when' e.g. When it was raining, I put my coat on. We will also look at contractions, such as don’t=do not, we’ll= we will etc.

During number work, we will once again focus on the four operations with a focus on solving division problems through sharing. We will also begin to learn our 3 times table facts.

In Science, we will be learning about how to keep fit and healthy.

Reading books are sent home each night and need to be brought to school everyday. Guided Reading lessons and Phonics  will take place daily at school.

Please continue to listen to your child read each evening.  Talk about the characters and what happens in the story, asking your child to re-tell the story once they have read it to you. What was their favourite part of the story? Why? Ask lots of 'who, what, where, when, why' questions. If you have time, why not sign up to Oxford Owl? There are hundreds of tablet friendly eBooks to read online and it's FREE!
