Year 2 - Willow

Year 2

Welcome back! It is lovely to see all of your smiley faces and to have the Year 2 team back together!

Don't forget to have a look at a snap shot of the fun and learning our children have had since returning to school in September. There are plenty of photographs and videos at the bottom of our learning page.

Spring 2 Topics

We will be covering History, Geography and Design and Technology through our ‘Explorers’ topic as we explore the events of the first moon landing. We’re going to be learning lots of interesting facts about different explorers; explorers from the past, where they’ve explored, the equipment they need and where you’d like to explore. We might even get to try some astronaut ice-cream as we become space explorers!

In English, we will study the story ‘The Bog Baby' by Jill Tomlinson. This story fits in perfectly with our 'explorers' topic. We will practise using 'when' for subordination of time e.g. I put my coat on when it was raining and we will practise beginning our sentences with 'when' e.g. When it was raining, I put my coat on. We will also look at contractions, such as don’t=do not, we’ll= we will etc.

In Science we will look at parts of a plant and what plants need to grow.

During number work, we will once again focus on the four operations with a focus on solving division problems through sharing. We will also begin to learn our 3 times table facts.

In RE lessons, we will be learning about the Bible.

Can you guess the 3-D shapes from our descriptions?

We hope you have enjoyed your home learning all about 2-D and 3-D shapes. The children in school have created a game where you can guess the name of the shape from the clues they give you. Maybe this is a shape game you can play at home too!
