Important notices

PE

Please be aware that we now have two PE slots per week.  We have one on Monday and one on Friday so the children will need to be in their PE kit on both days.

Remember this is black or navy joggers and jackets and a plain white t-shirt.  No logos or sports teams.

Thanks

Homework

Homework and Spellings are now being updated each week on our Homework sub page.  There will also be some My Maths homework. There will be Dojos for those children who complete their homework.

I would like to welcome you all to Sycamore (Year 3).  My name is Mrs Robinson and I am Sycamore's Class Teacher.  We also have two lovely TA's in our class called Mrs Whittaker and Mrs Whittaker. We are all so happy to see you all back in school.  It has been great to see so many smiling faces eager to learn.

There are a few new changes this year but everyone seems to be getting to grips with them all very quickly and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

If you do need to ask me anything, you can have a chat before or after school or you can make an appointment to see me at the school office.

I am really looking forward to this year and all the fun things that we have planned.

Reminders

As we have plenty of new changes in place, here is a list of reminders for you all.

  • Outdoor PE is on a Monday and a Friday for our class.  This means that on a Monday and a Friday you are able to come into school in your outdoor PE kit.  Remember your kit is a plain white t-shirt, blue or black joggers with a matching jacket.  Please no football kits or shirts.
  • We are sending home two reading books a week.  These will be given out for the week and need to be in school everyday.  On a Friday, we will collect them in and they will go into quarantine for the next week and the children will get two new books.
  • Homework and spellings will be added into the 'Homework' sub-page below.  Please check this weekly and check with inside your child's reading record to find out which spelling group they are in.  We will be having a spelling test every Friday.

If you have any questions or you are unsure about anything please ask me and I will do my best to help.

Crazy Hair Day!

We have lots of exciting work planned in English for this half term.

We have written some persuasive letters to Mrs Nicol to persuade her that we should be the Prime Minister of the school.

We have also been reading Darkmoor by Victoria Barry and will be focusing some of our English work around this.  We will be creating our own version of Darkmoor.

This half term we will focus on using subordinate clauses and marking them with a comma.  We will also focus on determiners a and an.

Here we are performing The Spider and The Fly.

In Maths this half term, we are going to focus on shape, fractions and our written methods. We will be focusing on the written method for multiplication and division.  When we work on fractions, we will be learning how to find fractions of amounts and how fractions relate to decimals.

Make sure you are practising your times tables.  We will be having a test every Friday to check our knowledge. We will be focusing on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

Every Friday we have a go at a puzzle.  This week we looked at a shape puzzle and had to fit the shapes together to make a picture.

Here are our results.

Have a look at these pictures of us having a go at the written method for addition.  We are loving having a go at some hard Year 3 Maths.

In Science, we are learning all about plants and how they grow.

We will have a go at planting our own plants and investigate different conditions to see which ones are the best to help our plants grow.

In Geography, we are comparing England to Norway.  We are looking at the differences in the countries including what we eat and physical and human features.

Future World Changers

Have a look at what we would like to be when we grow up.

PSHE

Here are Jino. He helps us with out PSHE.

We also have our own cat, which we named Mittens.  She helps us to know when it is time to pause and think in PSHE.

Here we are during the 'calm' section of PSHE. We have been enjoying doing some guided meditation to calm us down.
